Blood Collection Instructions
Step 1: Gather Supplies
Take out all of the supplies from your kit and place them neatly on a clean surface.
Step 2: Label the Blood Card
Write your name and the collection date clearly on the Blood Card.
Step 3: Warm your hands
Before collecting your blood sample, it is important to warm your hands. Wash your hands with warm water for at least 2 minutes to increase blood flow to your hands. If you don't warm your hands properly, you may have trouble collecting enough blood.
Step 4: Choose a finger
Select an area on one of your fingers to collect the blood sample from. A good spot is near the tip of your ring finger. Clean the selected area with the alcohol wipe provided in your kit.
Step 5: Use the lancet
Open the lancet by twisting off the cap. Press the lancet firmly down against your selected finger area until you hear a click.
Step 6: Drip blood onto the Blood Card
Massage your finger from the base to the tip to encourage blood flow. Drip full drops of blood into each circle on the Blood Card, making sure to fill each circle completely before moving on to the next. Avoid touching the Blood Card with your finger. Instead, let full drops of blood form on your finger before dripping them onto the card. If the blood flow stops, warm your hands and try again using another lancet on a different finger.
Step 7: Check Blood Card
Ensure all 5 circles are completely filled and the blood soaks through to the back of the card. Apply a bandage to your finger.
Step 8: Air dry the Blood Card
Lay the Blood Card on a flat surface and air dry for at least 30 minutes. Once it's completely dry, place the card into the Specimen Bag (do not remove the absorbent pad inside the bag).
Step 9: Prepare sample kit for shipping
Place the Specimen Bag with your collected sample back into the original box. When you're finished collecting all of the required samples for your test, ship your sample to the laboratory following the instructions included in your kit.
